Auto-greetings: the lowest-effort win in WhatsApp Business

By FlowsDesigner Team

Auto-greetings are messages your WhatsApp automatically sends to customers on certain events. They take 10 minutes to set up and pay back in customer goodwill for months.

The list every business should set up

1. First-message greeting (new contact)

When someone messages your number for the first time, send a short welcome explaining response times. Cuts "is this really a business?" anxiety.

2. Out-of-hours auto-reply

When messages arrive outside business hours, send an acknowledgement. Customers don't expect instant replies, but they do expect to know they were heard.

3. Birthday greeting

Once a year. Tasteful. Optional small offer. Drives repeat business with zero effort.

4. Anniversary greeting (purchase / membership)

Acknowledges the relationship. Pairs well with a renewal nudge.

5. Re-engagement (90 days no contact)

Light touch, asking if there's anything they need. Surfaces leads that went cold.

What NOT to automate

  • Anything that sounds like "thank you for your message, an agent will be with you shortly" — that's robot noise.
  • Anything that requires customer action without explaining why.
  • More than 1 auto-message in a conversation in a row. Customers will think it's a bot loop.

How to configure in FlowsDesigner

Settings → Auto-greetings. Toggle each event, customise the message, pick the segment. Done.
